Financial Control Manager
Spencer & Trent Recruitment is working with a fastest growing bank that is looking for a Financial Control Manager to join their expanding team based in Liverpool Street on a permanent basis. You will be working from their London office 3 days a week and 2 days from home.
Duties include:
- Leading and managing the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements
- Maintaining and enhancing the financial control framework, ensuring robust governance and effective internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR)
- Contributing to the delivery of strategic finance initiatives and projects led by the senior finance leadership team
- Providing technical accounting expertise on complex transactions and new accounting standards (e.g., IFRS 9, IFRS 16)
- Drafting, maintaining, and updating accounting policies and procedures
- Collaborating with key internal stakeholders including FP&A, Treasury, Risk, Internal Audit, and Commercial teams to ensure alignment and accuracy in financial reporting
- Supporting the development and integrity of management information across the business
- Overseeing the preparation and review of technical accounting entries, including treasury-related transactions and reconciliations
- Identifying and implementing improvements to financial controls, particularly where risks are identified
- Managing, mentoring, and developing the Financial Control team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Coordinating the external audit process and supporting the production of the Annual Report and Accounts
- Leading the preparation of tax packs and VAT returns and support the bank’s tax advisory and compliance activities
- Mapping and assessing financial processes to identify risks and implement effective control measures
Experience needed:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
- 4+ years of post-qualification experience in financial control, preferably within banking
- Proven experience in managing month-end/year-end processes and leading audit engagements
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and regulatory reporting requirements
- Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Access Financials or similar ERP systems) and Excel.
- Excellent communication and organisation skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, efficiently and organised
- Experience leading a team
Salary and Benefits:
- £75,000 – £80,000 DOE
- Yearly Discretionary Bonus
